Set up Default Customization for Litify Inbox Users

Default setup allows automatic application of Litify Inbox customization to new users. Existing users can revert their customizations to defaults if any changes made from their side are impacting Litify Inbox.


It is a best practice to have default customization defined on an organization level in the Litify Inbox Admin Panel. This will help prevent customizations from being reset in case of any Litify to Litify Inbox validation errors.

These steps are complex and following them incorrectly can cause major issues for your firm. As such we only recommended that they be performed by power users and organization administrators with admin permissions. Even so, we recommend that you read through these steps first before attempting them. Establishing Default Customizations

First, you will need to identify (or establish) a user whose Litify Inbox setup should be treated as the default. This is an account that has been specifically configured (usually by a System Administrator) to meet the basic needs of all other users—while allowing for customization based on each user’s specific needs. Default customizations should meet the following requirements:

  • The account has been customized and configured according to the business needs. This means that all of the relevant object cards have been added, search fields have been configured correctly, and any other necessary changes have been made.
  • The account is a configuration business users can always rollback to in case of any customization issues.

Export Customization to a JSON File

Once you’ve established a default customization, you will need to export it. For this process the settings are exported to a JSON file. The values contained in the JSON file are then added as a setting in the Litify Inbox Admin Panel. To perform the export, follow the steps below:  

  1. Launch the Litify Inbox sidebar.
  2. Click the "sandwich" button at the upper left corner of the sidebar.
  3. Select Customization in the dropdown menu.
    • This will open a new page in your web browser.
  4. On the new page press More.
  5. Click Export to a file.

  6. This will download a .json file that can be found in your machine’s "Downloads" folder. 
    • This is an offline copy of the customization that can be used as the default.

Default Customization Setup

Now that you’ve downloaded the default user settings, we will want to use them to create a new template. Have your system admin perform the steps below:

  1. Log into the Liltify Inbox Admin Panel.
  2. Go to the Organizational tab, and select Self-Registered User (or any other org name that you have your users registered with).
  3. Click on the Settings tab.
  4. Click New.
  5. In the search box paste the following: SalesforceAddinCustomization
  6. Expand the dropdown under New and select SalesforceAddinCustomization.


  7. Open the .json file that you downloaded in the previous step.
  8. Copy the text from the configuration .json file.
  9. Paste this text into the value filed for this new setting.
  10. Change the flag to Force.
  11. Click the Save button (the diskette icon).

Once you’ve completed these steps, you should be able to do the following:

  • All new users will be assigned with default customizations that you have added on the Organization level.
  • Current users will be able to press "Reset to default settings" in the Customization menu to apply these settings to their account manually.


Customization Push (Optional)

For the flow outlined above, new users will have the default settings applied automatically. Additionally, existing users can “opt-in” by clicking the "Reset to default settings" button. However, if you wish to force (or push) these settings to existing users you will need to follow the steps below:

  1. Launch the Litify Inbox sidebar.
  2. Click the "sandwich" button at the upper left corner of the sidebar.
  3. Select Customization Menu.
    • This will open a new page in your web browser.
  4. On the new page that opens click Share my customization settings with colleagues.
  5. Click the X Selected Users button to initiate the push.
    • The number on this button will change to reflect the number of users you’ve selected to push the settings to.
  6. Check the box next to "Only users of Litify Inbox". Alternatively you can search for specific user(s):

  7. Click the Save button at the upper right corner of the Customization page.
  8. The new settings should be applied within the next 5-7 minutes. 
    • Restart Microsoft Outlook to confirm that the new settings have been applied, after this time has elapsed. 
  9. Once customizations are pushed to the selected users, you as the initiator will receive an email notification confirming the push completion. Below is an example of of the email you will receive.


Once the new settings are pushed to the users, they might see a pop up in the Litify Inbox sidebar that will ask them to restart their Outlook application. This is a required step that finishes the application of the pushed settings.


Here is some additional information that may prove useful if you run into trouble while following this process:

  • If the notification email contains any usernames who the settings didn't push to, repeat the same steps described above and push settings only to the users whom the previous push failed for.
  • If users start noticing any error messages after the push, ask them to go to their Customization and hit the Reset to Default Settings button.
