Due Date Selector is a managed Litify component that allows you to define the due date of a default matter task when you build matter plans. Set due dates relative to a matter field value, stage activation date, matter task completion date, or manual for tasks without predefined due dates.

To add a Due Date, select the type and a corresponding stage or task or field, the value, and the operator. This guide covers the three types of due dates and considerations about each.

Note: Due Date Selector search results display the stage and plan they are on, ensuring you select the correct task or stage.

Operators

With operators, you can set due dates Days After, Months After, Years After, Days before, Months before, Years before, Business Days Before, Business Days After, and Equals to field values, stage activation, or task completion.

Business Days Before/Business Days After - these operators allow you to set the due date relative to business days rather than calendar days. This allows you to account for holidays and any days your business does not operator when determining due dates. You must set your business hours and holidays in your org.

For example:
Sunday, 1/1/2017: File Court Hearing task is due 5 Business Days After Initial Court Response Date = 1/5/2017.
Sunday, 1/1/2017: File Court Hearing task is due 5 Days After Initial Court Response Date = 1/4/2017.

Equals - set a task to be available the exact date of a matter field value, task completion, or stage activation. Enter 1 in the value field for the Equals operator.

Example:
I want my task to be due on the Estimated Close Date which is set to 11/10/2017. Select the field, Value = 1, and Operator = Equals. This sets the due date of the task the same date as the Estimated Close Date.

Supported Fields

Due Date Selector supports Date and Date/Time fields.

Matter Field

Set a due date relative to the value of a field on the matter. If the value of this field changes after you have added the Due Date, then the due date updates to the new field value, ensuring that you do not miss tasks.

Note: If you set a due date relative to a field with no value, make sure to enable the Auto-add tasks when relevant dates are known setting. This ensures that the default ask is added when a user adds a value to the field.

Select from these fields: Estimated Close Date, Created Date, Incident Date, Last Called At, Last Emailed At, Last Activity Date, Last Modified Date, Matter Date, Open Date, Pending Date, and Statute of Limitations.

Value:
Once you have selected a matter field, select the value. This must be a number with at most 8 digits. This value works with the operator.

Operator:
Select the time value: Days After, Months After, Years After, Days before, Months before, Years before, Business Days Before, Business Days After, Equals.

Stage Activation

Set a due date relative to the activation of a related matter stage. This occurs when a user clicks "Mark as Current Stage." Setting tasks relative to stage activation allows you to coordinate default matter tasks and matter stages and automatically create tasks at a logical time.

The value and operator function the same way they do in the Matter Field type.

Use case: "Send welcome packet" task
Due Date Type: Stage Activation
Stage: Initial Meeting
Value: 1
Operator: Equals

This sets the due date of the "Send welcome packet" task as the same day as the activation of the "Initial Meeting" stage.

Search results display the and plan stages are on, ensuring you select the correct stage. Click the "Only show results from selected Matter Plan" box to limit search results to stages on the current plan.

Task Completion

Set a due date relative to a matter task completion date. This allows you to coordinate related matter tasks and automatically create new tasks based on the completion of related tasks.

Use case: You're creating a due date for the default matter task "Follow up after filing court papers." You want to set this task's due date relative to the completion of the "File Court Papers" default matter task.

Due Date Selector for "Follow up after filing court papers" task
Type: Task Completion
Default Matter Task: File Court Papers
Value: 90
Operator: Days After

The value and operator function the same way they do in the Matter Field type.

Search results display the stage and plan tasks are on, ensuring you select the correct task. Click the "Only show results from selected Matter Plan" box to limit search results to tasks on the current plan.

Manual

Use the Manual Type to enable users to manually select any due date when adding this task to a matter. This is for default matter tasks that do not have predefined due dates, but are active tasks. Active tasks are automatically checked in the Add Task window on a matter stage. Use manual due dates for active tasks without predetermined known due dates.

Note: You must add "Manual" as a picklist value to the Due Date Selector field to use this. Navigate to Object Manager > Default Matter Task > Due Date Type field > New in the Values section. Add the Manual value and save it:

Additional Considerations

• Task due dates are updated automatically if you change the dependent field. For example: a user creates a matter with the wrong Incident Date field value and creates tasks with due dates relative to the incorrect incident date value. This user can update the Incident Date without manually changing all related tasks. They update automatically according to the changes

• If a selected matter field is blank at the time the due date is set, the task is not created until the field is populated. However, it is visible in the matter plan preview when adding tasks to a stage. When the field is populated, the task will be automatically added according to your auto-add settings.

• To set a task due the exact day of a matter field value, stage completion date, or task completion date, use the Equals operator and set the Value to 1.
