About Time & Billing Permission Sets

Time & Billing uses permission sets to grant timekeepers and billers access to key features like Time Entry creation and Billing application access. This article covers the various permission sets related to the Time & Billing application.

Time Tracking Related Permission Sets

The follow permission sets are related to the Time Tracking application. 

Time Tracking Admin 

Users with the Time Tracking Admin permission set can do anything in the app. This includes:

  • Manage other users’ time entries.
  • Manage users' Rates.
  • Apply config settings.

Standard User 

Users with the Standard Time User permission set are a bit more limited. They can do the following:

  • Create and edit Time Entries.
  • Create and edit Time Entries when granted permission for other users.

Additional Time Tracking Related Permissions

Standard Users can be grated additional permissions by Time Tracking Admins. Grant the following permission set(s) to further expand the permissions of Standard Users as is needed:

  • Delete Time Entries
    • Allows users to delete time entries they have permission to access.
  • Manage Rates
    • Allows users to manage their own Rates.

Billing Related Permission Sets

The follow permission sets are related to the Billing application. 

Billing Setup 

This permission set is primarily intended for those users who are setting up matters. This permission set grants access to the following features:

  • Can access and modify the billing preferences for a matter.
  • Can access and modify the rates for a client or matter.

This permission set does not grant access to the following features.

  • The Litify Billing application
  • The Litify Time Tracking application
  • The Litify Time & Billing Settings application 
  • This permission set does not grant users the ability to create Time Entries of Costs.

Billing User

This permission set is intended for those users who are going to be interacting with bill records, managing WIPs and pre-bills, and working on matters. This permissions set grants access to the following features:

  • Can access the Billing app.
  • Can view lists of matters and bills where they have been added as Billers.
  • Can modify time entries, costs, and bills.
  • Responsible attorneys may also use this permission set to manage the bills they have for approval in the Billing application.

This permission set does not grant access to the following features.

  • Cannot modify Rates or Billing Preferences, unless paired with Billing Setup permission set.
  • Cannot modify Billing records once they have been set to Billed.
  • Must be paired with a Time Tracking permission set to create Time Entries and be able to use the Timer properly.

Billing Admin

This is the highest level of Billing-related permission set. This permission set grants access to the following features:

  • Admin level permission set for all Billing records.
  • Can access all components and modify all billing records.
  • Can see lists of All Open matters and All bills in the Billing app.
  • Can modify all time entries and costs.
  • Can modify Billing records once they have been set to Billed.
  • Must be paired with a Time Tracking permission set to create Time Entries and to be able to use the Timer properly.

Additional Billing Related Permissions

Standard Users can be grated additional permissions by Billing Admins. Grant the following permission set(s) to further expand the permissions of Standard Users as is needed:

  • Delete Costs
    • Allows users to delete cost entries they have permission to access.
    • This permission can be added to any profile.
