Budget Types

Total Budget Type

Total Budgets allow for tracking of a Matter’s billed hours or spend. This is a high level view of how the Matter is billing time and cost.

Subtype Budgets

Subtype Budgets are smaller subsets that define the Total Budget. Time Entries and Costs which meet the budget criteria are counted and summed against those budgets and displayed as 'Actuals.'

Creating Budgets

  1. Click on the Budgeting Tab on a Matter.
  2. Click the + Add Budget button
  3. Enter a budget for Maximum Hours or Maximum Spend, these are your total budgets.
  4. Optional to create Subtype Budgets.
    1. Click into a category and set a budget amount.
  5. Click Save

Over Budget

When you have reached 100% or greater of the budgeted amount the budgets progress bars will turn red and will contain a ‘!’ icon. Regardless of the over budget indication, it cannot stop Timekeepers from adding to or logging new Time Entries and Cost. All Time Entries and Cost on the budget will continue to calculate the percentage amount for the budget. To remove over budget warnings, update the offending budget to accommodate the overage.
